What is the correct economic model? | Circular Economy?
Of course, the main factor that shapes society and develops its culture is Economy. I think it would be more correct to say that it was the formation of society with the renewal and formation of the economy. As time passes and technologies develop, human damage to nature increases. It is fair to say that we were not aware of this for many years, or rather, until the period when the countries of the world were not connected to each other. In today’s world we are just a few clicks away from everything, we are already aware of many things with ease. To this we can add seeing the slow destruction of the world. Of course, the sentence I wrote sounds quite heavy, but in fact it is so.
In the modern era, that is, in this era where we are aware of everything, the one-way development of the economy brings us closer to destruction every second. Of course, we need to know about the one-way progress of the first economy to know why we need to develop a different economic model. To explain this more succinctly, I want to go back to many years ago. This is of course when there are no recycling factories. Rather, we can say the time period that thought about the progress of the economy and prepared for the destruction of the world. I can’t name my example because I have forgotten the full name of the process of every product produced in the plastic industry being thrown into nature without being converted and creating a sea of garbage. Of course, after everyone saw the large-scale pollution of nature, it was thought that it is necessary to switch to a new model. It was also possible to do this in advance. This can easily be understood by looking at how animals and plants are in harmony with nature. Of course, they will think that it is nothing to shorten the life of our world in front of material gain. I hope you understand single-model economics after writing so much, so let’s talk about the economic model circular, which is correct and is being worked on to some extent even if it is not done correctly.
As I said at the beginning, we can easily understand this if we look at the harmony of animals and plants. It is obvious to everyone that many animals feed on plants or other animals for their growth and survival. In short, they live happily by eating plant-soil, animal-plant, animal-animal, and soil-animal. Of course, there are also plants that eat animals. We can say that exceptions do not break the rule. It is easy to see that the start and end points are the same even when I mark them as text rather than a picture. The name of the economic model that animals and plants knew beforehand and that we learned later is Circular Economy.
Well, can this model completely save us from everything? Are we satisfied with the loss during recycling?
Of course, this is not possible in any case. Because the life of every product that is created and used decreases and comes to the point of death like a person. When a person dies, as many functions and health are not in place, losses will occur during the recycling of any product. Even if there is no loss, the energy used during the recycling process already impacts the economy. Why I mentioned the cases where the loss does not occur because there are two main lines of this economic model as the main title. Technical and Biological. Any phone that is created briefly can be recorded in the technical process. The damage to the environment and the economy in almost recycling the phone, which is created by using Cu after its removal, is too much. Any furniture product created from nature can be taken as Biological. But even a slight loss during its conversion causes damage to nature and the economy.
Therefore, we can think that the most logical thing is to ignore the circular economy and have a good life. Of course, I’m joking. I think the best thing is to further develop the Circular Economy. We can take substitution and dematerialization as two main lines of developing this.
Substitution is about using different resources to achieve the same goal. For instance, the world is running out of lithium so unless we can recycle lithium batteries more efficiently, Sodium-Ion batteries might be a better option for car manufacturers in the future. Dematerialization refers to using less of a resource to serve the same economic function in society. For instance, Interface is the world’s largest designer and maker of commercial modular carpets. But they don’t sell the carpet anymore, their customers buy the service of having carpet on their floor. The interface is in charge of maintaining and repairing the carpet and they do that very efficiently because it is their specialty and they control the entire process. Using tiles, they can replace only the ones that need replacing. The old tiles go back to the factory to be recycled where new tiles are made with 98% recycled or bio-based content.
How is that almost circular? Of course not. It is simply one of the healthiest forms of economics. It is more correct to say that it is a small part instead of one. If we want the economy and nature to develop more correctly, we need to continuously improve things that incorporate many models. Topics such as sustainable energy, sustainable agriculture, and social sustainability can also be counted from this article. Of course, the part I consider the most important is social responsibility. Because it all starts when everyone first thinks about it and realizes how insignificant the use of some things is in our developing world. A better economy and a better life ignite from the spark of thought. The main thing is to think. Because it is quite easy to solve after thinking.
